If you are an existing member of our old Landlord Law website, you are entitled to transfer over to our new site at the same annual or monthly fee. To this end, we have created special 'Legacy Membership' types to allow you to do this. This is to reward our longstanding members many of whom have been with me for many years.
You should, if you are an existing member, have received your 'transfer email'. However these have been sent to the email address we have on the system, so if you have changed your email address you may not have seen it. Or it may just have been lost in your email in-box. Not a problem though, just let us know via our contact form and we will re-send.
Note that we are in the process of re-sending these emails anyway as after a major update in the site software some of the links we sent no longer appear to be working. So if you find that when following the link you just go to the home page or an empty basket - get in touch.
If you have been a long-standing member in the past, note that you also may be eligible for a legacy membership. Just get in touch and ask us - or we may already have emailed you about this.
Note however that these Legacy memberships will not be around forever so you need to take advantage of them now.
How to join
Follow the link in your Transfer email. DO NOT join via the open 'join now' page as these do not show the legacy membership links. If you join the wrong type of Landlord Law we cannot easily change this other than cancelling the membership just taken out and getting you to sign up again for the proper membership.
When you click your link, you should see a green icon and the ex VAT price of your legacy membership (VAT is added at checkout). Click the orange 'Sign Up Now' button. This will take you to the shopping cart system 'basket'. If you scroll down you will see the total amount you have to pay including the VAT. It will also tell you when your next recurring payment will be and when it will be due.
Click the orange button 'Proceed to checkout'.
The checkout page
- ignore the message about coupons above (unless we have given you a coupon, which is unlikely if you are buying a legacy product which is already discounted).
- Ignore also the message about logging in if you are a returning customer. Although you are a returning customer you are not a customer of this website.
You need to fill in the billing details form with your name and other information requested. If you have changed your email since joining the old Landlord Law, use your new email address here but please let us know, eg in the order notes box, so we can connect the two accounts in our separate mailing software so you stop getting any more transfer emails.
You will need to set a password for your new Landlord Law account. You may want to use the same password you had on your old account. Whatever it is - keep a note of it as you will need it when logging in again.
When joining as a legacy member we ask you to sign up to a direct debit arrangement via GoCardless. This is in an effort to stop all the issues we have had in the past with credit card changes. It is a very straightforward process and easy to cancel if you decide you no longer wish to be a member.
You need to tick the box to confirm you agree to the website terms and conditions (which you can view via the link) and then click the orange 'sign up now' button.
Setting up you GoCardless payment
When you click the Sign up Now button this will take you to the GoCardless website, where you can set up your direct debit payment. It is totally secure and we do not see any of your payment information here. It is between you and GoCardless.
Once you have done that and set up your payment, you will be re-directed to the Welcome page on Landlord Law where you will see a video from Tessa Shepperson welcoming you to the site. You will also be given a link to our transfer form where you can let us know if you want access to the old site, for example to download any documents you have stored there.
And that's it!
If you have transferred before your renewal date for the old site, we will be in touch about refunding the double payment element.
If you have any problems with the payment process, go back to the basket page and complete the form you will find there and we will get back to you.
